Butler church fire deemed accidental in nature

An early morning fire last Wednesday at the Butler Ohio Street United Methodist Church has been determined to have been caused by a lightning strike.

The strike appears to have hit just above the altar area, strewing debris and setting the altar on fire as well.

Thanks to a quick response from the Butler fire department, damage was mainly confined to that area- although the sanctuary and other parts of the building sustained smoke damage as evident in the photos.
