City of Drexel ½ of 1% Parks and Recreation Sales Tax Proposal
WHAT IS THIS? THIS IS NOT A TAX INCREASE. This sales tax already EXISTS. The City of Drexel uses this ½ of 1 cent sales tax to maintain and improve all of Drexel’s parks including, H.T. Smith Park and the Ball Park.
This sales tax allows us to continue the necessary maintenance and improvements our parks are going to need in the future.
This is an efficient method for everyone to chip in and contribute to the City’s well-being.
Sales taxes help raise money because not only will every citizen of Drexel be sharing the cost of improving and maintaining our Parks, but every traveler and visitor to our City will also contribute to their well-being.
WHAT’S THE COST?
This sales tax has a small impact. Should you spend $100 in Drexel, this tax will only cost you 50 cents! It may seem that such a small amount will do little to create change, but when every person living in and coming through Drexel chips in, the City will have the necessary funds to maintain the parks.
This ½ of 1% Parks and Recreation sales tax is to be used only for parks and recreation uses. It is being proposed because our City needs to make improvements and maintain existing facilities.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THIS PASSES?
If this sales tax is RE-authorized, then Drexel will continue to have the funds it needs to maintain and improve the parks system. If it passes, no one’s taxes will be increased.
The annual funds will go to improving and maintaining all our parks and will of course make Drexel an even nicer place for our children to play and for everyone to live.
