Throughout the investigation in the early morning hours on March 28th Nevada Police responded to the 700 block of North Cedar in regards to a motor vehicle that had just been stolen.
Officers responded to the area quickly and were able to locate the stolen vehicle in question in the 1400 block of North Cedar. The vehicle at that time was occupied by two male juveniles that Nevada Police Officers took into custody and transported to the Police Department until Vernon County Juvenile Officers could respond.
Throughout the course of the investigation it was discovered that an adult male ran from the vehicle when he seen officers closing in on their location. Nevada Detectives located the third adult male suspect and took him into custody on an unrelated warrant. He was taken to the Vernon County Jail for holding on the unrelated warrant.
Detectives conducted interviews and follow up on leads that they discovered throughout the investigation. It was discovered throughout this time that the three subjects were also identified as being suspects in a recent church burglary in the 1700 block of North Ash St. in Nevada.
During the course of the investigation detectives recovered stolen property that had been identified as stolen from vehicle break in’s during the same time frame. The property was successfully returned to the owners. Also discovered by officers were illegal drugs and paraphernalia along with keys that belonged to one of the multiple stolen vehicles from the previous nights.
None of the vehicles taken, or entered unlawfully were locked. No signs of forced entry existed in any of the vehicles. Nevada Police would like to remind everyone to please lock your vehicles and remove anything of value that can be seen from inside the vehicle.
The two male juveniles were referred to the Vernon County Juvenile Office for further proceedings. Their names will not be released.
The adult male has been identified as, Nevada resident, 18 year old, Destyn L Shaw. The Vernon County Associate Court has issued the following charges on Shaw:
Stealing – Motor Vehicle, Felony D
Stealing- Motor Vehicle, Felony D
Stealing- Motor Vehicle, Felony D
Stealing -$750 or more, Felony D
Burglary 2nd, Felony D
Shaw is being held in the Vernon County Jail on a $5,000 cash only bond.
