Steve was born October 19, 1955 in Harrisonville, Missouri, the son of Bill and Bonnie (Feeback) Hon. He attended Lone Elm Elementary #38 Rural School and East Lynne School and graduated from Harrisonville High School in 1973. He received an associate’s degree in heating and refrigeration from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg.
Following graduation he returned to Harrisonville and later lived in Garden City, MO. He worked as a HVAC service technician first for Jim Arnett in Pleasant Hill and later for Gene Hon in Harrisonville. Steve married Dianne Hess on April 20, 1985 at the Archie Baptist Church.
Steve purchased Gene Hon Heating & Cooling from his uncle in 1996, changing the name to Hon Heating & Cooling. He was a charter member of the Cass County Elks Lodge #2791, a member of the Harrisonville Chamber of Commerce, ACCA (Air Conditioning Contractors Assn), and a former member of the Garden City Jaycees and Harley Owners Group. Steve was a lifelong resident of Cass County.
Steve enjoyed billiards, playing on several area teams in the Outlaw Pool League. His adventures riding his Harley motorcycle led him to many states and even more friendships. Steve owned a cabin and his favorite boat "Freon Weekends" both on Lake of the Ozarks where many summers were spent with neighbors boating, swimming, cooking outside and enjoying the company of family & friends. In recent years he and Dianne were fortunate to take several trips, often with friends, traveling to warmer winter climates, both domestic & abroad.
Of all life's achievements the one he claimed to be most proud was his son, Will. Steve never missed a ballgame or an opportunity to share with others Will's latest accomplishment. His pride was multiplied with the arrival of his two granddaughters who truly put sparkles in his eyes.
A man of few words, but a heart of gold and kindness, he will be remembered for his infectious smile and his love of life.
Steve was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Violet Marie (Morgan) Feeback (1970), Forest Feeback (1999) and Lucy Lea (French) Feeback (1997), paternal grandparents, William Harris Hon (1973) and Ella Francis (Raffurty) Hon (2001), and his father-in-law, Lewis Edward Hess (2007).
