Jennifer Schmehl retires after more than 44 years at Bates County Memorial Hospital

After more than 44 years of dedicated service, Bates County Memorial Hospital said farewell to Jennifer Schmehl, Registered Nurse Manager. On May 16, 2017, many gathered at a reception given in Jennifer’s honor. Jennifer began her nursing career as a candy-striper volunteer, working as a nursing assistant in 1970.

Jennifer completed nursing school in 1973 and began working as a Registered Nurse. Over the years, Jennifer has worn many hats in the hospital. Jennifer assisted in hundreds of deliveries of newborn babies.

She has been supervisor of the Emergency Department, Obstetrics Department, and Medical/Surgical Unit. Jennifer consistently demonstrated a quiet strength and passion as she cared for our patients. She is a team player and everyone knew they could go to Jennifer with any situation. Jennifer has demonstrated responsibility and accountability as a leader and has been a role model for so many of our employees. Jennifer leaves an empty space that will be hard to fill.

While she leaves many friends and memories behind, we wish Jennifer many more years of happiness as the best is yet to come.
