CW4 James "Jim" Cecil Shoemaker was born on November 28, 1939 and died on April 22, 2017 at the VA Hospital, Temple, TX. Jim packed many lives into one lifetime, but, first and foremost, Jim thought of himself as a helicopter pilot. He has now made his final helicopter flight to his heavenly home. He grew up in Diamond, MO. Jim had a tour of duty in Vietnam- 1969-1970 and Operation Desert Storm 1991.

Jim received his Associates of Arts from George Washington University. He later continued his education with University of Central Texas and received his Bachelor of Science and his Master of Science.

After 26 years of military service, Jim retired and learned square dancing in 2002 at the Shirts n' Skirts square dance club in Georgetown. He started with the with the Killeen Kickers in 2004. He was treasurer for 2005, 2006, 2012 and 2013. Club secretary in 2007 and 2008, vice-president from 2009 and 2010 and most recently, club President. Since 2004, Jim had been very active with the various Square Dance Clubs. They include The Bluebonnet Trailblazers and Heart of Texas Square and Round Dance Education Director for various years.

Jim has been an active member at Killeen Bible Church and Grace Bible Church in Killeen.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Shoemaker, his mother, Goldie Frasure, of El Dorado Springs, MO, a niece Claire Brown of Tok, Alaska. Jim is survived by his sister, Virginia Brown of Killeen, TX, son Douglas (Shoemaker) Tanner and wife Kem of Joplin, MO, granddaughter Abby Baker and husband Preston, great granddaughter, Sophie Ann from Seneca, MO, and grandson Jacob Tanner and great granddaughter Sadiie Ann of Joplin, MO, niece, Lauren Burnham and husband Glenn of Tok, Alaska, nephew, Darren Brown and wife Holly of California and great niece Daisy Brown of California, great nephew James Burnham of Tok, Alaska, niece Claire Burnham and fiancé Grady Bristol both of Tok, Alaska
