He is survived by his wife, Jennifer, of the home; his father-in-law, Bill Kohler of Nevada, MO; one sister, Marva Bradfield and her husband Jarod, his nieces, Jaron and Jordon of Bloomington, IN; one brother, Michael and his wife Amy, and their children, Jackson, Sierra, Trevor, and Ryleigh of Nevada; and one daughter, Marissa Fields, Joplin, MO.
Steve lived a very interesting and active life. He became an Eagle Scout at the age of 13 and had earned 110 of the 113 merit badges that Boy Scouts of American offered at that time. Steve graduated from Kathleen High School in Lakeland, FL in 1985 and was active in football, wrestling and AFJROTC. Steve attended Indiana State University where he was active in Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He desired to fly helicopters for the United States Air Force but his vision would not allow him to serve. Steve trained to be an executive chef at the Disney World Resort. He later worked for the Detroit Tigers and was a former volunteer firefighter for the Milo Rural Volunteer Fire Department, and a Drug and Alcohol Counselor. Steve rose to the third degree in in the Knights of Columbus, and held numerous positions in the Jaycees. He was active in supporting all of his nieces and nephews activities and could be found on the sidelines of Nevada athletics in support of his nephew, Trevor. He will be missed by all that knew him.
Family and friends would like to thank the Vernon County Ambulance District, especially Mike Hueston, paramedic, and David May, EMT, the Nevada Fire Department, and the entire ER staff at NRMC for all they did for us.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
