Butler man arrested on 6 active warrants in Bates County

On July 23rd a Sergeant conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on County Road 365. The driver of the vehicle, Charles Westmoreland (DOB 10/3/1983), had 6 active warrants. 

Mr. Westmoreland advised the Sergeant that there was a pistol in the vehicle but it was not his. The Sergeant searched the vehicle and located the handgun as well as a container than held a white crystal substance. He also located a pipe that had white residue in it. Both field tested positive for methamphetamines. 

Westmoreland was transported to the Bates County Jail. A female passenger was also transported to the Jail and was put on a 24 hour investigative hold.

Westmoreland had the following warrants:

-Driving while Revoked or Suspended (Bond $125.00 cash or surety)

-Operate a Motor Vehicle without Maintaining Financial Responsibility (Bond $125.00 cash or surety)

-Probation Violation (Bond $20000.00 cash or surety)

-Probation Violation (Bond $25000.00 cash or surety)

-Probation Violation (Bond $15000.00 cash or surety)

-Probation Violation (Bond $15000.00 cash or surety)

Mr. Westmoreland will also be charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and for Unlawful Use of a Weapon. He is currently being held in the Bates County Jail.
