The start of the 2017-18 football season is approaching quickly. MSHSAA has not yet posted the new district alignment. However, the WEMO conference will have some changes this year.
One more team drops out of the WEMO football conference as Osceola has announced that they will drop to 8-man football this year.
Midway was scheduled to open the season August 18th on the road at Osceola. This left a hole on the schedule and the search to fill it could not be found anywhere in the state.
Middle Tennessee Christian from Murfreesboro, TN came calling asking us to visit them for week one. This will be the farthest a Midway team has traveled to play football and the first time in Tennessee.
Previous the longest trip was in the 1978 semi-final game at Chaffee, Missouri. The only other out of state visits for the Vikings have been to Kansas.
Middle Tennessee Christian School, or MTCS, is a private school in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, chartered on December 9, 1960. Individuals from a number of congregations of the Churches of Christ in Murfreesboro were responsible for establishing the school. The school's main campus is located at 100 E. MTCS Road, 37129. The school provides classes for Pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. The school mascot is the cougar, and the team colors are orange, white, and black.
MTCS play in Tennessee Class 1A Region 5 and finished last season with a 7-4 record. MaxPreps has them listed at 17th out of 60 teams in Class 1A last season. The MaxPreps national rankings had them at 8434 just slightly ahead of Skyline.
The Cougars head coach is Fred Shambaugh who has been there for three seasons and has a record of 22-10. Midway looks to capture their 7th straight WEMO Conference crown and defend their 4th straight District title. Midway has finished with a 35-6 record over the past 3 seasons.
This will prove to be a very challenging game for the Vikings in week one as Tennessee rules allow them to already begin practice and to have more contact scrimmages earlier in the year.
Cass Midway will travel to Tennessee and play the game on Friday August 18th, 2017.
