Clinton man arrested on multiple charges

On 07/17/2017 at 9:44 p.m., Clinton Police Officers responded to a complaint of stealing from the Casey’s General Store at 701 E. Ohio St. According to witnesses, employees of the store, a subject later identified as Brian Joseph Hoffman, age 48, of Clinton, MO, entered the store, taking numerous items from the shelves including beer, beef jerky and candy, and then ran into the parking lot and to a waiting vehicle.

The store clerk followed Hoffman outside, confronting Hoffman and attempting to recover the stolen items which resulted in Hoffman and the clerk becoming involved in a physical altercation. Hoffman shoved the clerk and then drove from the scene.

Clinton Police stopped Hoffman’s vehicle a short distance from the scene and arrested him for 24 Hours Investigation of 2nd Degree Robbery, 4th Degree Assault and Driving while Suspended/ Revoked. The Robbery and Assault charges stemming from the alleged physical altercation the suspect initiated after the stealing.

Formal charges were later filed by Henry County Prosecuting Attorney Richard Shields and Hoffman was being held at the Henry County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
