Flooding creates havoc for just about everyone

A vehicle swept away by flood
water prompted a rescue of
three people last night
Waking up yesterday morning brought a set of challenges that we weren't expecting. Running water was blocking access to our normal routes and caused a considerable amount of damage in basements, businesses and more.

Non stop rain for most of the night left us with totals from 4 or 5 inches to a reported 9 inches in the northwest part of the county.

One of the areas hardest hit was along Miami Creek- which closed access in key areas well after the rain stopped as water from Cass County made its way south. Case in point, F highway west of Passaic, heavily traveled by workers at the LaCygne power plant, was still closed late in the evening.

AT THE SOUTH EDGE OF ADRIAN along Skyline Drive,
flooding left this homeowner scrambling for help to
remove items from her basement.
To the north, Archie and Harrisonville suffered substantial damage as well, with water a few feet deep seeping into businesses and homes. Estimates of damage are thought to run in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, possibly millions.

Further north,  over 20 water rescues were completed in Kansas City and the surrounding area. Fortunately, no deaths from drowning have been reported.

NOW WHAT? Major clean up. Drying out, salvaging items and filing insurance claims. Out in the country side, it appears there will be a fair amount of work filling washouts, replacing gravel, fixing fence and possibly replanting crops if it's not too late.

Some good news- temps will remain the the 80's range while there are no appreciable rain chances for at least the next two weeks.
