Four arrested on drug charges after search warrant in Appleton City

On July 24, four individuals were arrested on felony drug charges after the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Mid Missouri Multi Jurisdiction Drug Task Force with executing a search warrant at a residence on West Miller Street, Appleton City.

During the investigation it was determined Maxwell is currently residing at the home with Knowles and also shares a bedroom with her. While executing the warrant a plastic bag containing a crystalline substance, a glass pipe with a white powdery and burned substance inside, and a Heritage .22 caliber revolver were located in their bedroom. The bag and pipe field tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine.

Shannon Knowles, 46, Appleton City, is charged with class D felony possession of a controlled substance, class E felony unlawful use of a weapon-subsection 11-possess weapon and a felony controlled substance, and class D misdemeanor unlawful possession of a drug paraphernalia. Bond is set at $15,000 cash or surety.
Robert Maxwell, 52, Warsaw, is charged with class D felony possession of a controlled substance, class E felony unlawful use of a weapon-subsection 11-possess weapon and a felony controlled substance, class A misdemeanor unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia-prior drug offense. Bond is set at $25,000 cash only.  
 Bertha Lockwood, 54, Humansville, is charged with class D felony possession of a controlled substance, class D misdemeanor unlawful possession of a drug paraphernalia, and class D misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Bond is set at $15,000 cash or surety.
Mark DeForrest, 59, Appleton City, is charged with class D felony possession of a controlled substance and class A misdemeanor unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia-prior drug offense. Bond is set at $25,000 cash only.


During the investigation it was determined Lockwood and DeForrest also currently reside at the home and share a bedroom. While executing the warrant a cardboard box was located in their room. The box contained two plastic bags with a crystalline substance inside each, a clear plastic straw with a white powdery substance inside, a glass pipe with a white powdery and burned substance inside, a clear plastic bag containing marijuana, and a wooden pipe with burned substance inside. The bags and the straw field tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine.

Two plastic bags containing a crystalline substance were located in a pair of jean shorts with DeForrest’s wallet attached by a chain. A back pack containing a used hypodermic syringe, a spoon, and a straw with a white powdery substance was also located in their room. An envelope addressed to DeForrest was located inside the back pack. The substance inside one of the plastic bags and the straw field tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine.
