James Paul Garrison, 84, of rural Lowry City, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, August 25, 2017. He was the eldest son of Paul Raymond and Goldie Marie (Rice) Garrison. Jim spent his formative years helping his dad farm in the Rockville area and graduated from Rockville High School in 1950. He then joined the U.S. Army, serving his country in the Korean War. Upon returning home, Jim completed a degree in agricultural science at the University of Missouri. During this time he met and married Joan Everett on June 10, 1956, and to this union three children were born: Greg, Karen, Julie.
A lifelong Methodist, Jim’s faith remained an important part of his life, serving in many capacities within his home congregation at Trinity United Methodist Church in Appleton City for many decades. He made a living as a materials inspector working for MODOT for 30 years. Jim also farmed part time with his brother-in-law, Howard Mount, row cropping for many years. Apart from his career, he loved watching the Mizzou Tigers, especially basketball and football teams throughout the year. Moreover, hunting deer, duck, and quail were among his favorite hobbies. Jim deeply enjoyed canoeing and camping with his friends and family throughout southern Missouri. He treasured the times he and Joan rode his motorcycle in the Rocky Mountains and all over the American West visiting family. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Goldie Garrison.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Greg (Ida) Garrison, Karen (Dana) Gardner, Julie (Tim) Dickerson; two grandchildren, Matt (Michelle) and Anna Dickerson; one great-grandson, Huxley Dickerson; brothers, Ed, and Roger Garrison; sister Carol Mount; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
