She was born January 9, 1925 in Lone Jack, Mo., the daughter of Claude Alfred Brooks and Georgia (Kennedy) Brooks. She married Lynn Preston "L.P." Jenkins on April 19, 1945 in Independence, Mo. He preceded her in death on May 13, 2009.
Prior to her marriage she worked for Montgomery Ward and then as a secretary for Employee Mutual Insurance, both in Kansas City, Mo. She was a member of the Chilhowee United Methodist Church, where she was the longtime church organist and was also involved with the Ladies Aid. She was a member of various extension clubs in the area, the Clinton Quilt Club, and played the organ for numerous funerals, weddings, and the Chilhowee Fair Queen Contest Tea. She thoroughly enjoyed working crossword puzzles of all kinds, music, sewing, quilting, doll making, and watching Wheel of Fortune.
Surviving are three sons, Clayton Jenkins and wife Linda, Pleasant Hill, Mo., Casey Jenkins and wife Verna, Holden, Mo., and David Jenkins and wife Debbie, Chilhowee, Mo.; three daughters, Linda Ritter and husband Larry, Adrian, Mo., Carolyn McQuitty and husband Robert, Chilhowee, Mo., and Deborah Balden, Clinton, Mo.; 17 grandchildren, Brenda Heil, Steven Ritter, Tate Jenkins, Kelli Jenkins-Isles, Melissa Peery, Matthew McQuitty, Monica Winders, Darrell Anstine, Damon Anstine, David Anstine, Dustin Anstine, Shannon Jenkins, Julie Flaspohler, Samantha Lankford, Tamara Jenkins, Michael Jenkins, and Melinda Jenkins; 41 great-grandchildren, and expecting one more great-grandchild; several great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter in infancy, Tammy Ellen Jenkins; paternal grandparents who helped raise her; two brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at the Chilhowee United Methodist Church, Chilhowee, Mo. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., just prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in the Chilhowee Cemetery.
