Blaine was raised in Bronaugh and graduated from Bronaugh High School in 1947. He served in the United States Army for two years during the Korean War in a Medical Detachment Unit and then in Occupation Forces in Japan. Blaine received the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Camp Stars, the Occupation Medal (Japan), and the UN Service Medal.
Following his service years he attended Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg, KS and received a degree in Psychology. He worked as a social worker for the State of Kansas most of his life until his retirement. For the past 20 years Blaine has resided in Nevada. He currently attended Nevada United Methodist Church.
Survivors include five daughters, Eva Butterfield and her husband Lee Dunsworth, Raymore, MO, JoEtta Bellinger and her husband David, Oskaloosa, KS, Jane Butterfield, Lawrence, KS, Mavis Spaar and her husband Doug, Topeka, KS, Martha Iott, and her husband Cary, South Carolina; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and one sister.
A graveside committal service with Military Honors will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the National Cemetery in Fort Scott, KS wih Rev. Sharon Freeman officiating. A procession will leave from Ferry Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. to travel to the cemetery.
