From the Butler Fire Department

On Sunday, October 29 at 10:32 p.m. the Butler Fire Department was dispatched to 814 West Ohio Street for a report of fire in the wall behind a wood stove.

Units arrived on scene and found that the homeowner had extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher and that there was no further extension in the wall.

The fire in the stove was extinguished and the house was ventilated to remove smoke and fire extinguisher dust.

One resident was treated on scene for smoke inhalation by Bates County EMS. Please remember to install wood stoves according to manufactures specification and check with your insurance company also.

A wood stove is a great source of heat but if installed improperly can be deadly. As a reminder, don't forget to change the batteries in your smoke detectors when you change your clocks.
