One person was seriously injured and was transported to a hospital in Kansas City for treatment of a severe head injury. He was released several days later.
This office returned the referral to the Clinton Police a few days later, asking them to clarify certain information in the report which the police department did. This office then received further information about other possible witnesses and notified the police department about them.
Several individuals were interviewed over the course of the investigation and it became clear to this office that there were vastly different versions of the events that took place that night, including who the initial aggressor was, and what, if any, justification to inflict injury was held by the person who caused the serious injury to the person who was hospitalized. Consequently, this office is not in a present position to file any charges against anyone. This is because this office must have confidence that it can prove in court that a crime was committed by a particular person. This office relies solely on official investigations performed by law enforcement agencies. It cannot and will not be guided by information posted on social media.
This office has not used the names of the persons involved because no one was charged. The persons involved and/or those following this matter know who they are. If significant further information materializes, this decision could be reviewed, however, for the time being, no charges are forthcoming.
