Don T. Tenholder was born on Mother’s Day, May 8, 1938. It is rumored that he has the distinction of being the first baby boy born at the old Clinton Memorial Hospital. Don was the fourth of six children to be born to Ted and Alma (Cook) Tenholder. He passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2017 in Butler, Missouri at the age of 79.

Upon graduation from Montrose High School in 1956, Don worked for a short time at Swift Meat Packing, then Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, Missouri. After a brief period in Kansas City, Don returned to Montrose to farm full time with his dad in 1958.

In 1958, Don met the love of his life, Myrna. They courted while she worked at Hallmark Cards, then as a dental assistant in Appleton City. They were married on February 27, 1960 during a blizzard making their honeymoon in the southern states more enjoyable. To this union three children were born, Kimberly, Rodger and Kristi.

Early on, Don raised chickens and farmed. He worked at Peabody Coal Company as a heavy equipment operator for 19 years. After the mine closed, he continued farming and operated his own dozer business until health issues forced him to retire. He had a strong love for his farm and enjoyed tending to his cattle.

Don was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Montrose and was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.

Don’s favorite pastime was spending time at the lake with family and friends teaching the kids and their friends how to ski. He also enjoyed drinking a cold Budweiser with his many friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Shawn. He is survived by his loving wife Myrna of the home; daughter Kimberly Lynch of Pittsburg, KS; son Rodger (Lynda) Tenholder of Saginaw, TX and daughter Kristi (Dave) Gengler of Montrose, MO; grandchildren: Shannon (Luke) Giefer, Zachary and Charlie Tenholder, Luke (Heather) Gengler, Brett Gengler and Scott Gengler; great-grandchildren: Lilly, Maddie, Uryiah Tenholder and Chase Gengler; siblings: Florence Tenholder, Blanche Jurgensmeyer, Joan Engeman, Judy Steiger and Paul Tenholder.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Linda and John Hilte for all their help, love and support.
