Obituary - Freda Shipley

Freda Shipley, 95 of Drexel, Missouri passed away December 18, 2017 at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville, Missouri. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel Chapel (660-679-0009). A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday December 20, 2017 also at the chapel. 

Burial will be in Gunn City Cemetery, Gunn City, Missouri. Contributions are suggested to Gunn City Cemetery Association. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com

Freda Marie Shipley was born July 10, 1922 in Persia, Iowa to John Wesley and Vangy Alice Shelton Murphy. At the age of three, her parents moved to a farm southeast of La Tour, MO. where she would spent most of her early childhood years. Freda attended Mt. Lennia School and graduated from La Tour High School. 

On January 7, 1944 she was united in marriage to Wilburn Alfonzo Harris. He would precede her in death in 1953. Freda later married Chester Raymond Shipley on August 31, 1957. He would also preceded her in death in 1998.
Freda worked for Hipsh Sewing Factory and Dunhill Shirt Co. in Holden, MO. She then worked for Archie Sale Barn and Snead’s BBQ in Belton, MO. for many years. She was a member of Southfork Baptist Church and the Lisle Home Club.

Freda was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, and her brother James Murphy. She is survived by two sons, Wilburn Harris and wife Ruby and Martin Shipley and wife Donna, both of Drexel, MO., sisters Stella Whiteman of Kingsville, MO., Mary McKay of Holden, MO., Cletis Snider of Pleasant Hill, MO., a brother Bill Murphy and wife Bonnie of Kingsville, MO., five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a great-great- grandchild on the way. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
