Obituary - James Lee Rasmussen

James Lee Rasmussen, age 71, a resident of Moundville, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at the home of his daughter in Ft. Scott, Kansas. He was born May 6, 1946 in Ogallala, Nebraska, the son of August Rasmussen and Avis Morrell Rasmussen. Jim served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He had been employed as a mechanic for John Deere in Nevada, Missouri. He also farmed and raised cattle. He enjoyed fishing and hunting as well as spending time on the farm with his family.

Survivors include two daughters, Sherry Hymer and husband Jay and Stacey Schnichels and husband Glen, all of Fort Scott, four Grandchildren, Jayden Hymer, Weston Schnichels, Holly Crays and Emily Buller and a great-granddaughter, Pennie Crays. Also surviving are four brothers, Dale Rasmussen of Highland Downs, Colorado, Rod Rasmussen (Cindi), Florissant, Missouri, Jack Rasmussen (Jane), Springfield, Missouri and Jay Rasmussen (Dee), Coppell, Texas and three sisters, Vicki Yokley (Al), Nevada, Missouri, Connie Montague (Doug), Kansas City, Missouri and ReGina Rasmussen, Nevada, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Kathy Rasmussen.

Following cremation, Pastor Larry Stevicks will conduct graveside services at 12:30 P.M. Monday, December 11, 2017, at the U. S. National Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Olson Frary Brukhart Post #1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 P.M. Sunday at the Cheney Witt Chapel.
