At 9:20 am, Cpl. Corpening and a MSHP responded to Headwaters Motel to locate Mark Tousignant 63, who was reported to be residing in room #6. Tousignant was wanted for absconding on weapons and explosive charges from Saline County Missouri. Tousignant barricaded himself in his room and refused to talk to negotiators.
After several hours of no contact, MSHP Swat Team was activated as well as the Bomb Disposal Unit. After numerous additional attempts to establish contact, the Swat Team introduced pepper balls through the window to no avail. It took a 40 mm tear gas canister to influence Headwater's unwanted guest.
Thanks to the training and professionalism of all involved, everyone went home safe. Except for Tousignant. He was treated at the scene for minor scrapes and tear gas inhalation then transported to the Benton County Jail.
