Deputies arrived on scene and found Caleb L.D. Shephard, 27, of Cole Camp, with an apparent gunshot wound outside the residence of William J. Heffernan, 21. Deputies and EMS provided aid at the scene before taking Shephard by ambulance to a helicopter landing site, where he died
After the initial investigation, Heffernan was arrested in connection to Shephard’s death.
Heffernan has been charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action and tampering with evidence. He has been issued a $100,000 bond, cash or surety.
The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate the shooting.
