Obituary - Ruth May Sitz

Ruth May Sitz, 96, of Nevada, MO passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Nevada Nursing and Rehab following a lengthy illness. Ruth was born on September 29, 1921 in Larned, KS to Hugh R. Sloan and Fannie (Baxter) Sloan. She married Louis Sitz on July 7, 1938 in Russell, KS and he preceded her in death on January 6, 1997.

Ruth was raised in Larned, KS. At the age of 8 she moved with her family to Russell County, KS and attended school in Gorham, KS. She and Louis lived and worked on the family farm there before settling in Richards, MO in 1960. Ruth worked as a seamstress at Nelly Don and also Kelwood Tent Factory for a number of years. Most of her life was spent as a homemaker and farm wife. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards with friends, cooking, sewing and gardening. Ruth loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her two Shelties, Bobby and Robby. She was a member of the Durham Good Neighbors Club and an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her son,Edward Sitz,, and wife Waneta, Liberty, MO; daughter, Laurie Gold, and husband Gary, Russellville, AR; daughter-in-law, Julie Sitz, Nevada; seven grandchildren, Tom Sitz and wife Tina, Milo, MO, Tammy Hogan and husband Russell, Nevada, Luci Winkley and husband Kevin, Olathe, KS, Tim Sitz, Miami, FL, Ben Gold, Russellville, AR, Sam Gold, Russellville, AR, and Krista Gold, Bentonville, AR; eight great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; Nevada; sister-in-law, Elgerine Elliott, Charlotte, NC; and several nieces and nephews in North Carolina. In addition to her parents and husband, Louis, she was preceded in death by one son, Ernest, and one brother Warren Sloan.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Nevada. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 10:00-10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Friends may call from Monday until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
