Officers had developed information regarding a known male subject at that location that had reportedly been involved in illegal drug activity.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with multiple subjects on the property. During the initial contact the known male subject fled on foot from officers but was taken into custody a short time later.
The male subject was found to have a loaded handgun in his possession, which upon further investigation was identified as being stolen in a recent theft from a rural Vernon County address. The male subject was also prohibited from legally possessing a firearm.
A second male subject present at the scene was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm and suspected methamphetamine.
During the search of the property officers located and seized suspected methamphetamine and suspected drug paraphernalia. The evidence seized will be sent to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Lab for further analysis.
The known male subject, identified as Travis A. Houts, age of 29 of Nevada was taken into custody and transported to the Vernon County Jail for holding.
On January 4, 2018 the following charges were filed against Houts through the Vernon County Associate Court:
Unlawful Possession of a Firearm - Class D Felony
Possession of a Controlled Substance - Class D Felony
Receiving Stolen Property – Class D Felony
Resisting Arrest for a Felony – Class E Felony
Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Class E Felony
Houts is being held in the Vernon County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 cash only bond.
The second male subject, identified as Kyle C. Mason, age 18 of Nevada was taken into custody and transported to the Vernon County Jail for holding.
On January 4, 2018 the following charges were filed against Mason through the Vernon County Associate Court:
Possession of a Controlled Substance – Class D Felony
Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Class E Felony
Mason is being held in the Vernon County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 cash only bond.
