James was born August 2, 1949 in Maysville, MO to Clyde Wesley and Shirley Faye (Dennis) Berten, Jr. Throughout his life, James worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator building many bridges. For the past 50 years he has lived mostly in the Nevada area. James liked to fish, play pool, and spend time with his family.
Survivors include four sons, James “Rick” Berten Nevada, Frank Berten, Blue Springs, MO, Jimmy Joe Berten, Nevada, David Berten (Brenda), Nevada; two daughters, Tammy Johnson, Independence, MO, Cindy Chastain (Dean), Independence, MO; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers, Bob Berten, Clarksdale, MO, John Berten, El Dorado Springs, MO, Mike Berten, Chickasha, OK, Doug Berten, El Dorado Springs, MO; many nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 26, 2018 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. The family will receive friends from noon until service time at the funeral home.
