Two troopers were on a traffic stop in the area at the 170 mile marker. Troopers successfully deployed a tire deflation device and the suspect vehicle became disabled just south of that location.
The fleeing man, Preston Ray Holloway, 27, Houston, Texas, got out of the vehicle pointing a gun at his own head. He began walking down the interstate pointing the weapon at vehicles, and at one point fired at a passing motorist.
The driver then forced another motorist out of a white GMC Terrain and fled in that vehicle northbound on Interstate 49 into Raymore.
Troopers, a Cass County Sheriff’s Deputy, and Raymore Police Officers pursued the suspect into Raymore. The suspect got out of the vehicle in a subdivision near North Dean Avenue and Lucy Webb.
The suspect began walking away from officers while pointing the gun at his own head and at officers. At 11:50 p.m., troopers advised shots had been fired.
Preston Ray Holloway was injured during the gunfire and transported to Research Hospital, in Kansas City.
Holloway, who had two felony arrest warrants out of Jackson County, died about 6:40 a.m., Thursday, Research Hospital, according to the highway patrol.
