From the Bates County Sheriff's Office

In conjunction with the Supreme Court Ruling filed January 2, 2018, non-privileged mail will only be accepted or sent in the form of post cards, unless it is legal mail or medical documentation for the Medical Department. 

Post cards must be standard white post cards no larger than 5" X 7". Defaced or altered post cards will not be accepted. 

Outgoing mail shall only be mailed in the form of white post cards that are available for purchase from commissary. Money orders and photographs will be accepted in a plain white envelope. Photographs must not have nudity, drugs, alcohol or gang signs in them. 

Inappropriateness of photographs will be determined at the discretion of the Administration. Paper back books will only be accepted from the publisher. Hard back books will not be accepted.

Inmate visits will now take place via video kiosk from the lobby visitation room at no charge to the visitor or inmate. Visitors must check in and present their identification to Dispatch. Visitors must have photo id and at least 17 years old. Visitors under the age of 17 must be accompanied by a guardian and have a copy of their birth certificate for identification.

The visitor will dial the inmate from the kiosk. Visits will be 15 minutes in duration. Inappropriate conduct during the visit will result in denail of future visits. Visitation is a privilege and may be disallowed for disciplinary purposes. Legal visits will take place in a designated room.


Visit times will be as follows:
Sunday through Saturday
7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Appointments for visits will no longer be made. Visits are on a first come first serve basis.
