Nevada man killed in Vernon County Crash

On 5/9/18 around 9:40pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County along with Vernon County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two vehicle accident on Missouri 54 Highway around 2 miles east of Dedrick in rural Vernon County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 driven by 61 year old Randy Cooper of Stockton, Missouri was pulling a trailer when it came loose from the truck and veered into the westbound lane of US 54 Highway where it struck a 2002 Ford F-350 driven by 64 year old Ronald D. Hughes of Nevada, Missouri. The horse trailer rolled over the F-350 and the F-350 became wedged between it and a stock trailer that it was towing as well.

Mr. Hughes was pronounced dead at 9:40pm by Vernon County Coroner David Ferry. He was transported to Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, Missouri with services pending.

The Ford F-350 was towed from the scene by Garwood's Wrecker Service of Nevada, Missouri.

This is Troop D of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 33rd Fatality of 2018.
