Harrisonville Police Warn of Scam!

The Summer Scam calls are in full swing. 3 of our officers have already received calls that are clearly illegitimate and we wanted to share some more tips for our citizens. We tried to convert the voicemail(s) our officers received into a format that Facebook would accept but finally accepted defeat after multiple attempts.

If a caller sounds robotic, or the voicemail starts halfway through (indicating that it was triggered by your voicemail speaking), it's probably a scam.

If a caller cannot use your name, it's probably a scam.

If the caller insists that you have to handle this "right now" or you'll face legal consequences, it's probably a scam.

The Harrisonville Police Department (or "local police") does not do robotic calls if we need to speak with you. We either call and identify ourselves immediately, or we just come by and talk in person. If neither of those things happen, it's probably a scam.

It is best practice that if a person calls you and it sounds suspicious, find the number of the agency or business they are reporting to be yourself and then call them back at that number. Do not call any number given by the initial caller as that's just going to be another scammer working in concert with the first person.
