Cass County DARE Camp Kicks Off Tuesday



Officers from around Cass County will kick off the 12th Annual Cass County DARE Camp Tuesday morning with an Olympic theme.

60 students from 7 school districts around Cass County will enjoy 3 days of fun and education this week. Students are selected from 2018 DARE graduates and invited to participate. This year’s Olympic theme will have the students, along with 12 high school role models, learning and completing in various activities, challenges, and team building contest.


Cass County DARE Officers Christine Eddleman and Stacy Gunn also found a creative way to beat the hot July heat with an Olympic sport. Students and staff will be traveling to Line Creek Community Center where they will spend part of the day on the ice rink learning the basics of curling.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for students to interact with law enforcement in a very positive way. It allows these deputies and police officers to talk about their jobs in a positive way and share their training and experience,” said Sheriff Jeff Weber

Students will also spend the week interacting with numerous law enforcement agencies, search and rescue teams, and specialized units from around the area. DARE officer’s from the Harrisonville Police Department, Garden City Police Department, and Cass County Sheriff’s Office will serve as mentors. The Cass County DARE Camp is free to participants thanks to donations from area businesses and community organizations.
