Susan Lynn Shields was born October 21, 1953 in Charleston, West Virginia to John and Freda Mae Beckett. She attended school in Charleston and graduated from High School in 1971. Susan then attended Marshall University, graduating in 1976 with her teaching degree in Special Education. She taught for three years in Huntington, WV at Grandview Elementary School.
On Labor Day in 1980, Susan met Robert Shields, Jr. They would later be united in marriage on July 11, 1981.
Susan enjoyed life, she loved to cook, read, and ride bicycles, she also loved to spend time with her family. She will be forever remembered for her bright smile, positive attitude and loving spirit.
Susan was preceded in death by her father in 1998, and by her older sister Elizabeth “Libby” Holcomb in 1984.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Robert Shields, Jr. of Butler, MO., by her mother Freda Beckett of WV., brother John Beckett, Jr. and wife Alison of TX., sister Kimberly Casto and husband John of WV. She is also survived by her nieces,
