Derrick enjoyed painting and drawing, shopping, helping people and was a kind and caring person. He liked to tinker on things and figuring out how things worked. He is s lifelong area resident of Harrisonville, Missouri.
Derrick is survived by his mother, Cynthia D. Hopkins of Harrisonville, Missouri; his father and step-mother, Danny and Tina Harris of Garden City, Missouri; a brother, Jacob Burns (Kierstin Long); two sisters; Brandi Harris of Arkansas and Christina Harris of Garden City, Missouri; paternal grandparents, Dean and Delores Harris of Garden City, Missouri; his companion, Andrea Klinge; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri. Burial will be in the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri.
The family will receive friends Saturday, July 14, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
