If you are doing controlled burns, please notify our dispatchers @ 660-679-3232 to let them know. This prevents us from running on calls where we are not needed. Please check on neighbors, friends and family, and especially the elderly who may be at a greater risk by the extreme heat conditions. THANK YOU! Here are just a few things that have been going on this week for your volunteer firefighters.
On Monday evening July 9th at approximately 7:00 PM, the department responded to a motor vehicle accident just south of the Adrian exit on southbound 49 highway. This involved an overturned semi-truck that was hauling soybean product and it blocked both lanes of SB traffic. Police officers very quickly had traffic diverted to the Adrian exit ramp and traffic continued to move with minimal disruption. During that incident, the fire department was dispatched to assist on a medical call in Adrian. As with any incident that we are working, a fire department medical first response crew had already been pre-established to handle any such type of call that would have come in to minimize response times, so the crew was able to be on the scene very quickly.
At approximately 2:oo AM on Tuesday morning July 10th, the fire department responded automatic mutual aid assistance to Butler Fire Department on a reported structure fire in Butler.
On Tuesday, July 10th at approximately 2:00 PM, the Adrian Fire Department along with assistance from the Butler Fire Department and Central Cass Fire Department responded to a residence NE of Adrian on a report of two vehicles that were on fire with a house in danger as well. Units arrived finding two pickup trucks fully involved and the structure in immediate danger.

Firefighters protected the structure first and then extinguished the pickup trucks. Bates County EMS responded to the scene and evaluated two Adrian firefighters for injuries and they remained on scene until the incident was terminated. Bates County EMS will most always respond on fire scenes, especially in the current weather conditions, to provide care to the firefighters and/or anyone who is in need. We can’t thank them enough for that service.
Tuesday afternoon, July 10th at approximately 4:00 PM the fire department responded on a medical assistance call in Adrian.
