Martin Gene Bradley of Prescott, Kan., was charged Monday in U.S. District Court in Kansas City with the Oct. 19 robbery Citizens Bank of Amsterdam in Hume, Mo.
Prescott is about eight miles from Hume and about 80 miles south of Kansas City. According to court documents filed Monday:
After the robbery, a description of the robber was broadcast to law enforcement officials in the area.
A deputy with the Linn County, Kan., Sheriff’s Office spotted Bradley, who allegedly matched the suspect description, leaving a bank in Prescott.
Bradley told the deputy that he had not gone anywhere earlier that day, and had walked to the bank from his home.
Deputies checked the pickup truck parked at Bradley’s house and noted the hood was warm, as if the vehicle had been driven.
When questioned later about the robbery, Bradley said he was “behind on bills,” and decided to rob the bank, according to the allegations in court documents.
A large amount of cash was found in a search of the truck, and clothing matching what was worn by the robber.
