Obituary - Damon Eugene Bartles

Damon Eugene Bartles, 84, of Harrisonville, Missouri passed away from glioblastoma on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville surrounded by his family. 

A Visitation will be Friday, October 19, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Harrisonville United Methodist Church, 2600 E. Mechanic Road, Harrisonville, MO. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 20, at 10:00 a.m. also at the church, officiated by Kevin Shelton and George Moore. 

Interment will follow in Sharon Cemetery near Drexel, Missouri. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital or the Harrisonville United Methodist Church. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com

Damon was born November 21, 1933 in Miami County, Kansas to Roy Olvernon Bartles and Edna Ann (Williams). He married Jeanette Louise (Pelton) Bartles on April 4, 1957 in Drexel, Missouri and they were able to share 61 years together.

Damon was a member of the first high school graduating class of the Miami Reorganized School District. He served in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1957 during the Korean Conflict. He served aboard the USS Quincy and as an aide and driver for the Commander, U.S. Seventh Fleet during his military service. Damon worked as a construction superintendent most of his career installing water districts, building roads and runways, and building city infrastructures. After his construction career, he worked for the City of Harrisonville as the Director of Codes Enforcement, eventually retiring as the Harrisonville City Administrator. He was a member of the Harrisonville United Methodist Church, Cass Lodge #147, Missouri Rural Letter Carrier’s Auxiliary (where he was member of the year), American Legion, and the VFW.


Damon’s hobbies included taking care of his family, fishing, camping, visiting various coffee shops, working on do-it-yourself projects, and he could basically fix anything.

Besides his parents, Damon was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianna Lynn Bartles; a brother, Thomas Olvernon Bartles and his wife Alice; and two sisters, Anna Marie Bishop and Connie Sue Bartles.

Damon is survived by his wife, Jeanette of the home; son Michael Alan Bartles (Cynthia), Harrisonville, MO; daughter Kathy Ann Andula (Ray), Harrisonville, MO; five grandchildren, Niccole Phipps (Maurice), Avilla, MO; Caitlynn Compton (Aaron), Harrisonville, MO; Kristen Bartles, Ravenwood, MO; Victoria Bartles, Harrisonville, MO; and Tyler Andula, Rich Hill, MO; three great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Walker, and Eila. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and coffee shop buddies.
