From the Bates County Sheriff's Office

We have had several sex offenders state that they were told they are no longer required to pay the $5.00 fee when they register. This is not correct. That part of the law did not change.

The statutes states that the Chief Law Enforcement officer can charge $5.00 to the offender for changing their registration.

When a sex offender registers in the month they are required to, that is considered a change to their registration per MSHP.

All sex offenders are required to pay the $5.00 fee when they register in Bates County.
