Barney Ellsworth Scott, age 97 of Drexel, Missouri died Monday, December 17, 2018 at his home. He was born February 19, 1921 to Mert Lee and Minnie Tyler Scott.

Barney, one of six children, grew up in Miller County where he attended school. On August 19, 1944 he was united in marriage to Harriett “Hattie” Ingram, and this marriage lasted 74 years. To this union two sons were born. Barney served his country during World War II in the United States Army. In his early years, Barney worked as a taxi driver in the Kansas City area. He then moved to the Rich Hill area where he worked at a hatchery and farmed and raised cattle. Barney later moved to Main City where he owned and operated a dairy farm. In 1964 Barney and Hattie bought the Gambles Store in Drexel. Some of their happiest days were spent working in the store serving the community. Barney & Hattie retired from the business in 1985.

Barney was ornery, kind, and caring, and always wore his emotions on his sleeve. He enjoyed rabbit hunting, gardening, visiting with family and friends, and raising beagle dogs. He truly enjoyed the many fishing trips he took with his buddies to Colorado.
