Update: Fatal House Fire in Clinton

At 1:14 am this morning, the Clinton Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 600 block of West Rogers Street. While en route, Clinton Police Department units on scene advised that there were two reported occupants still inside the home.

Prior to fire crews arriving on scene, Clinton Police Officers attempted to locate the occupants by opening the front door of the residence. They were immediately met with intense heat and flames which halted their rescue attempts.

Upon arrival to the scene, fire crews found heavy fire coming from the front of the residence, a trailer home, and heavy smoke coming from the rear of the structure. Firefighters immediately entered the home from the rear of the structure in an attempt to locate the trapped occupants.

Shortly into their search, a female victim was located in a rear bedroom and removed from the structure where EMS and Fire crew members began resuscitation efforts. Fire fighters conducted a secondary search for the second victim. Their search led to the front of the structure were they were met with intense heat and flames.

Fire fighters were forced to evacuate the structure as conditions inside the home were quickly deteriorating. After the fire was brought under control, fire fighters reentered the structure and located a male victim, deceased, in the front area of the residence.

The Missouri State Fire Marshal’s office was notified and requested to respond the scene to assist with the investigation of the incident. The female victim was transported to Golden Valley Memorial Hospital where she was life-flighted in critical condition.

An investigation into the cause is under way at this time. There were no working smoke alarms in the home.
