The A.C. Spring City Wide Garage Sale will be April 12 - 13. Permits are $5 and can be purchased at City Hall from March 28-April 10. Permits to set up in the A.C. Park are $25 for the pole shelter, $15 for a stage permit and $10 for a lawn permit. The price for Park Permits is good for both days and these can also be purchased at City Hall. They are on a first come, first served basis. Maps will be available at Food Fair, Powell's True Value and Casey's beginning Thursday afternoon. House of Joy Ministry will be at the City Park on Saturday from 4:00-5:00 to pick up donations. If you have questions, please call Dianne Foster at 476-2390.

St. Clair County’s Certified Work Ready Communities Celebration will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday March 28, at the Appleton City Park Building. Teresa Heckenlivley, St. Clair County Economic Developer, will be giving an update on some projects and Presiding Commissioner Robert Salmon will say a few words, followed by the reading of the Proclamation. Refreshments will be served.


Appleton City’s Main Street from the railroad crossing east to Zink Motors has been nominated for the National Register of Historic Places. This nomination will be reviewed March 29, 2019 by the Missouri Advisory Council on Historic Preservation in Jefferson City. If approved by the Missouri Council, the nomination will be sent to the federal level of the National Register of Historic Places for the final approval. A good representation of interested people from AC is encouraged to attend to let the State know AC cares. You may call City Hall for more information or for car-pooling information. The public meeting will be at 10:00 a.m. at the Lewis and Clark State Office Building, LaCharrette Conference Room.

Appleton City Elementary PTO will host the 2nd Annual Little Ladies Dance on Saturday, March 30 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the elementary gym. This dance is for all little ladies pre-K through 5th grade in our community and their special guy in their life (dad, grandpa, uncle, family friend, etc.) to come out for a night of dancing, snacks, pictures and overall good fun. Tickets are $20 for a couple (add $5 per additional sibling attending). No RSVP needed and tickets will be purchased at the door the night of the dance. Light refreshments and drinks will be provided. Each couple will receive a complimentary 4x6 photograph to remember the night’s events. Check out the AC Elementary PTO page with more information.

The Appleton City Public Library is conducting their Friends of the Best Sellers Program until April 11, 2019 to fund the purchase of new hardback books for the library. You can become a friend by either choosing a book from the list or requesting another book you've wanted to read and then donating $20.00 for said book. The perks of being a Friend to the Library are that you will be the first person to check the book out, you'll have the opportunity to read other books purchased by Friends first and you will be honored by having your name placed on a special nameplate in the front of each of the Library Friend books. Library hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. to noon.

On Tuesday April 2, from 2:00-4 p.m. at City Hall, the Park Board will host a reception to thank Sandra Long for managing bookings for the Park Building for over 20 years. City Hall staff will take on the bookings starting in April. Everyone is welcome to come by to say thanks to Sandra and get information about new routines for booking the Park Building.

A Fish "Fry-Day" Dinner at Immaculate Conception Church in Montrose will be April 5 from 5:00 - 7:30 in St. Mary’s School Hall. They will serve the “best fried fish around”, Suzy Q's, green beans, cole slaw, cornbread, cookie and a beverage. Adults eat for $10, children (under age 10) for $5.

The AC 2019-2020 Kindergarten Enrollment and Screenings will be held on April 2. Please call the Elementary Office at 660-476-2108 to make an appointment. If your child will be 5 before August 1, now is the time to begin thinking about Kindergarten enrollment requirements. The following items are required for enrollment: immunization records, state issued birth certificate, social security card and proof of residence. Your child can receive the immunizations that are needed to attend Kindergarten anytime on or after his/her fourth birthday. You do not need to wait until age five. They encourage you to have your child fully immunized now and bring the immunization record to school on the day of Kindergarten screening. Hudson R-IX Elementary will hold their annual preschool & kindergarten screening on Thursday, April 4. Please call (660) 476-5467 to set up an appointment. You will need your child’s social security card, birth certificate, and current immunization record. If you call and the school office is closed, please leave a message and they will get back to you.

The Trinity United Methodist Church will have Lenten Noon Service and Light Lunch on Wednesdays through Lent, March 27, April 3, 10 & 17. Everyone is invited and welcome to attend.

The St. Clair Co. Democratic Committee will have their 2019 Spring Banquet 6:00 p.m. Saturday, April 6 at the Boy Scout Building in Lowry City, MO. Tickets are $20 and reserved tables are available for $125 that will seat up to 8 (reserve in advance). Speakers will be Brandon Garrison, MO Rural Caucus Chair, Joe Poor, State Committee Person for the 28th Senatorial District and 2018 candidate for the 28th Senatorial District and Cindy McDaniel. The Historic St. Ludger’s Church at Germantown will be hosting its first Easter Cantata on April 23 at 7:00 p.m. This is the first time that the Garden City Community Choir will be performing there. There are several members from our local community that sing in this choir of 80+ strong this year and this is the choir's 48th year of praising God with the help of many different denominations. This year, the Cantata, entitled "Thou Art Worthy" by Clydesdale, will have its first performance locally and they promise you it will start the Easter week off by preparing us for what is to come. It will begin with about 15 minutes of great "old time gospel" music that you will want to hear, followed by the Cantata, which will last about 35 minutes. Please come and join them! Help prepare for Easter with the telling of the death and resurrection of Jesus, who died, rose, and lives just for us. So mark it on your calendar! Appleton City Manor and AC Journal would like to invite you to join them Saturday evening April 13 at the AC Manor for the 2019 Appleton City High School Junior/Senior Promenade. Prom attendees will be announced and photographed then featured in the Journal, AC Manor’s Facebook and Newsletter. Family, friends and area residents are invited to share this event with the residents. Guests should arrive early to assure proper seating. Couple names to be announced promptly at 6:00 and then Prom will continue at the High School. The theme this year is Rock Concert.

Mark your calendars. The most powerful drama you will ever experience is coming to the Osceola Assembly of God Church, 7:00 p.m. March 31 through April 2. “Heaven’s Gates & Hell’s Flames” presents the truth like you’ve never experienced it before. Bring your family and friends. Be prepared because your life will never be the same again. Admission is free. Childcare will be available for children 5 and under.

The annual PTO Bake Sale will be held at Food Fair Saturday, April 20 from 8:00 a.m. until sold out. Grab your goodies for Easter breakfast or dinner! If you are willing to donate any kind of baked good(s), please plan to have them delivered to Little Apples Daycare/Sarah Eye between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 19 or dropped off at Food Fair by 7:45 a.m. Saturday morning. This event raises funds that allow elementary students to participate in field trips throughout the school year, as well as fund additional requests from teachers throughout the school year.

The last Box Top, Best Choice and Food Fair receipt collection will take place on May 6. Please send in all of your labels and receipts with your student at this time. Any community members may contribute by dropping them off at the elementary office during school hours. Box Tops cannot be expired and Food Fair receipts need to be from January 1, 2019 through April 30, 2019. All older receipts will not be counted. Please help the PTO earn money through this on-going fundraiser!

The ACHS Alumni Meeting will be Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. with a noon meal/meeting. Class coordinators are asked to please contact Linda Lampkin at 660-476-5857 or acmolampkin@yahoo.com, to receive a detailed letter and postcard sample. Reservations of $12/person made out to ACHS Alumni may be mailed to Patty Purvis Young x68, 101 E 3rd St, Appleton City, MO 64724. Alumni still working and traveling distances like to receive information early.

The Appleton City High School Alumni Scholarship Foundation, Inc. will be awarding five $1,000 scholarships to the graduating seniors in May, 2019. Students may attend any type of post-secondary training. The applicants' names are eliminated from the forms before being mailed to the out-of-town alumni judges. Seniors may pick up their forms from the school counselor. The deadline for application is March 27, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. All ACHS seniors are encouraged to participate. These awards are made possible by contributors interested in the youth of the Appleton City area.

The AC Fair will be June 6-8 in the evenings. The theme is "A Salute to Volunteers”. You may become a Proud Sponsor by giving a donation. Proud Sponsor and booth forms are available at City Hall. Need a ride, call on OATS. Available to everyone (not “just” Seniors/Disabled) 24 hour reservations advance reservation required. Donation per stop is suggested. OATS is a door to door, shared ride service; all vans are equipped with ramps and helpful drivers!

Once again DbarJ Quilts Etc will be sponsoring the Elva Gwinn Huffman Essay Contest for non-profit groups. Any non-profit group can write an

essay about their group, their good works and how they would use the quilt to help them raise money for their cause. It is best if you keep it to no more than 2 pages. The due date of the essays is March 31, 2019. They will be read and the quilt will be given out on April 2, which is Elva's birthday.
