James attended school in Peculiar and Grandview. Following high school he became a truck driver and worked for Cartwright Moving and Storage. For many years he was owner and operator of his own truck contracting as an independent driver. He later worked for CCX until 2002 when he was forced to quit driving trucks following a stroke. James enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cooking. He worked hard to care for his family and was known to have a really big heart.
In addition to his wife Deborah, survivors include three children, Jeanni Nickerson of the home, and Artie Corrice, Nevada, Tabby Corrice, Osceola; grandchildren, Hailey Nickerson, Tatum Tummons, Alexis Marie Pruitt, Lindsi Corrice; mother, Julia Howe (Paul) Lowry City, MO; father, Charles Nickerson (Bonnie) Peculiar, MO; brothers, Tim Nickerson (Kathy) Belton, MO, Leslie Brown (Karen) Independence, MO, Kevin Nickerson (Liz) Parkville, MO; sisters, Kim Mentzel, Lowry City, MO, Angel Ferrin (Jeff) Clinton, MO, Amy Welsh (Eddie) Lenexa, KS; nieces, nephews, extended family, and special friend, Justin Russell (Kim Rivera) Kansas City, KS. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Nicole Marie Nickerson.
Memorial services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Gary Hancock officiating. Interment will follow in Marvin Chapel cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. on Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
