| Keep the chicken coming, please. Robert Perryman and Paul Cumpton |
As trivia team signups came in a few days earlier, it appeared there might be around 8 teams in the competition but much to the surprise of organizers that number swelled to 24 and the south wing of the Optimist building was filled to a capacity of around 300. With that, there was a concern there might not be enough food but that was swiftly remedied.
The effort to give a boost to the financially ailing Bates County 4-H organization was the brainchild of Shannon Crawford of Amsterdam, along with the Bates County Extension Council and kudos to many volunteers including master-of-trivia-ceremonies Wayne Seider who read the sometimes mind-boggling questions.

| Team Justice prevailed at Trivia Night in Adrian |
Of course, looking things up on the internet was NOT an option.
In the end, Team Justice, which included local Judge Julie Highly and Coroner Greg Mullinax took top honors for the night.
Based on the success of this event, you can pretty well bet there will be one next year, too.
The fight is real when it comes to finances to keep our Bates County 4-H clubs in existence. Some food for thought- there are 331 4-H members and 25 school enrichment programs in Bates County. That also includes 136 adult volunteers, 32 youth volunteers. Changes from higher up have put finances to support our local groups in jeopardy, and as seen last night, our community has once again come together to show support.
Note that as wonderful as the support has been for this fundraiser, it will take a steady, ongoing effort to keep 4-H alive in Bates County. More information will be posted soon regarding just how that will be done.
Thanks once again, for everyone who contributed to the Kickin Chicken dinner and Trivia Night.
