Electrical fire in rural Butler home

On Thursday, April 18 at 12:18 a.m. the Butler Fire Department was dispatched to a residence on County Road 2001 for a report of smoke filling the basement.

At 12:24pm units arrived on scene and found fire in the wall and crawl space. The fire was extinguished with minimal fire and smoke damage.

Cause of the fire appeared to be accidental in nature due to a faulty electric wire. Units were released from the scene at 01:40 a.m.

Mutual aid assistance was given by Adrian Fire and Bates County Sheriff's Department. All occupants were out of the residence upon arrival. There were no injuries.

There were no working smoke detectors in the residence. If you do not have a working smoke detector contact your local fire department.
