Former local police officer makes TV appearance

Matt Weiss, a Greene County Sheriff's Deputy (Springfield area) has made another appearance on A&E's Live PD show.

Over the weekend, Weiss was seen in episode 310, where he assists with a traffic stop.

This isn't the first time he's appeared on Live PD. In fact, for quite some time he was in the shows opening credits due to some very interesting circumstances.

A film crew of three travel in the car with the officer. In this particular case, Weiss makes a traffic stop, noting that the driver is a long way from home at 1:30 in the morning. As usual, the officer gives the driver an opportunity to explain what they are doing. Much to his surprise, the driver gives a very believable dissertation on her late night trip to an adult book store- to purchase adult coloring books.

She shows Weiss the books. Not drugs, not alcohol, no felony warrant- just a late night purchase of something intimately private.  In the camera shot, Weiss is obviously surprised, to say the least. His expression and momentary loss for words was all the makings for an interesting opening sequence.

"You can't make this stuff up" he said with a laugh during our talk yesterday.

All fun aside, Weiss takes his work very seriously, as do the rest of the crew on the Greene County Sheriff's Department. However, there has become quite a local following for the show in the Springfield area, a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/375701696261890/ keeps up with the latest happenings.

Matt Weiss previously worked as an officer for the City of Butler and the Bates County Sheriff's Department.
