Doncella Liggins and Representative Tracy McReery
2019 OUTSTANDING WOMAN OF THE YEAR

Congratulations to Doncella Liggins, Director of Health Information Management at BCMH, for being chosen as the recipient for the 2019 DeVerne Calloway Award. She was nominated by Mo. Representative Patricia A. Pike and was presented with the award by the Women Legislators of Missouri in Jefferson City on Monday, April 15.

More information about the award and Doncella's achievements from the Mo. House of Representatives:

"The DeVerne Lee Calloway Award was established in 1993 to honor the memory of DeVerne Lee Calloway, the first female African-American member of the Missouri General Assembly. She dedicated her life, including nine terms in the Missouri House of Representatives, to putting people first. She won major battles for civil rights and liberties and significantly advanced equal opportunities for all. Since then, women of all backgrounds have been honored annually with this award for making a difference in their communities.

"Today we honor Doncella Wright Liggins for her commitment and dedication to her community and state. Involved in many organizations and commissions through the years, Doncella has continuously been engaged in service and leadership in her area. Of note have been her key contributions in helping erect a Civil War monument in Butler, Missouri acknowledging the 'Battle of Island Mound', one of Missouri's newest state parks. Since 2003, Doncella has been the Director of Health Information Management at Bates County Memorial Hospital. In her free time, she is a strong advocate for organ donation."
