Lots happening in Appleton City

Prairie Queen Garden Club will have their Tree Giveaway and Plant Sale on National Arbor Day, Friday, April 26, in front of Food Fair from 8:00-3:00 or until sold out. They will also have plant starts, seeds, succulents and decorative rock plants. This is their only fundraiser and all the money stays in Appleton City. Hudson - R IX will have a student performance and art fair on Thursday, April 25 in the multi-purpose building. The performance begins at 7:00 p.m.

The Trinity United Methodist Church will hold a Taco Dinner, Saturday, April 27, 4:30 - 7:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall. This is a free will donation fund raiser to support the back to school project in the fall, where they supply underwear and hygiene products to school children in need.

Sunday, April 28, the AC Area Ministerial Alliance will host the baccalaureate service for the 2019 ACHS Graduates in the Easy Gym at 7:00 p.m. All students, their families, teachers and administration are invited to attend.


The AC FFA will hold their spring plant sale at the FFA greenhouse from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on all school days as well as Saturday April 27 from 12:00-4:00 p.m. Just stop by the Agriculture building for assistance any weekday. The FFA has garden vegetables and flowers for sale such as tomatoes, broccoli, cabbage and peppers, as well as potting flowers like petunias, annual impatiens vinca, and geraniums. Flowers and vegetables can be purchased as four or six packs, individuals or as hanging baskets. Costs are $1.50/ four packs, $1/Tomato Plant, and $12/Hanging Basket or 3 Hanging baskets for $10 each. For more information, give Mrs. Leiber a call at 660-424-3668.

The annual Mass commemorating the Germantown Miracle will take place at noon on Sunday, May 5 at St. Ludger’s Church. Fr. Jason Koch, pastor of Immaculate Conception Church in Montrose, will be the celebrant. This will take the place of Immaculate Conception’s 8:00 a.m. Sunday Mass.

The last Box Top, Best Choice and Food Fair receipt collection will take place May 6. Please send in all of your labels and receipts with your student at this time. Any community members may contribute by dropping them off at the elementary office during school hours. Box Tops cannot be expired and Food Fair receipts need to be from January 1, 2019 through April 30, 2019. All older receipts will not be counted.

The Appleton City Public Library will be hosting a special Story Hour on Tuesday, May 7 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Children of all ages are invited. The library recently received a grant which enabled them to purchase nearly 200 new children's books. Children who attend the event will get to hear some of the stories read for the first time, as well as have the opportunity to be the first to check the new books out. Refreshments will be provided.

The Appleton City FFA will be hosting a Mother’s Day spaghetti dinner with salad, garlic bread and dessert on May 12 from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. in the high school commons area. This free will donation dinner is to help fund FFA members who will be attending Washington Leadership Conference in Washington D.C. this summer.

OATS BUS schedule for the week of April 29: St Clair County to Bolivar May 2. For those that live in St Clair County wishing to ride the OATS Bus please call John at 417-309-3464, Julia at 417-309-3463, in the Lowry City area call Heidi Carden at 417-309-0146. Need a ride, call on OATS. Available to everyone (not “just” Seniors/Disabled) 24 hour reservations advance reservation required. Donation per stop is suggested. OATS is a door to door, shared ride service; all vans are equipped with ramps and helpful drivers!

Second Saturdays is an Appleton City shopping event 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on south side of Main Street in front of West Central scheduled every second Saturday of the month starting May 11.
