Motorcycle fails to yield for police in Henry County

Sheriff Kent Oberkrom reports that on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 just after 3:30 p.m., his staff was advised that Johnson County deputies were pursuing a motorcycle eastbound on Hwy 2 from the Leeton area. The motorcycle, which was failing to yield, entered Henry County where Deputy Jones became engaged in the pursuit.

The motorcycle lead deputies on several gravel roads south of Hwy 2 and East of Hwy CC for several minutes. The motorcycle then traveled on Hwy CC to eastbound on Hwy 2. Just west of Hwy J, the driver stopped motorcycle in the middle of the road.

After taking the driver into custody, the deputies noticed that the driver had an apparent gunshot wound to the left upper chest. A pistol holster was recovered from the driver, but a firearm was not found.

The investigation is continuing as to how the driver was shot, but it is believed that he shot himself accidentally or purposely. The driver was identified as Clint B. Nichol, age 44 of the Warrensburg area.

Mr. Nichol was transported to a Kansas City area hospital for treatment of his wound. The Henry County and Johnson County Sheriff Offices are investigating the shooting.
