Obituary - Olive Aileen Mitchel

The funeral service for Mrs. Mitchel will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri.

Officiating at the service will be Pastor Tony Reynolds.

Visitation will be held between 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri.

Interment will be in Montrose Cemetery, Montrose, Missouri.

The family requests any Memorial donations be given to Round Prairie Cemetery or Hospice Compassus and may be left at the funeral home the day of the service.

Olive Aileen Mitchel, 95, departed this life April 12, 2019 at Appleton City Manor Nursing Home, in Appleton City, Missouri. Aileen was the daughter of Wilbur and Pauline (Raybourn) Holt, born April 5, 1923.

Aileen began teaching at Reynard School and Brush College at age 18. She loved the eagerness of the children who were her students and the opportunity to make a difference in their lives. Pay for her job started at $40 per monthly.

Aileen was united in marriage to John W. Mitchel February 16, 1947 and to this union two sons were born.

Aileen wrote articles for the Clinton Eye and the Appleton City Journal for many years. Every Sunday evening she was busy calling neighbors for news and she much enjoyed visiting with her many friends while getting information for news items. Aileen loved working with her flowers and gardening in general. She also loved to sew for her granddaughters. She served as den mother for Cub Scouts, was a member of Care and Share Club and Montrose Community Betterment Club. Aileen loved to travel and went on many trips, keeping scrapbooks of her many trips. She loved preparing and bringing canned goods, sewing projects, garden produce and flowers to the annual Appleton City Fair.

Preceding Aileen in death were her parents; her husband John; daughter-in-law Deborah Mitchel; and siblings, Chester Holt and Lola Browning. Survivors include her sons, Jerry Mitchel (Wanda) of Montrose, Missouri and Terry Mitchel of Clinton, Missouri; two granddaughters, Lana and Dara; five great-grandchildren, Anise, Arbor and Linden Havemann of McKinney, Texas along with Joren and Jemma Christiano of Charleston, West Virginia.
