Phillip attended Appleton City High School, graduating in 1958 and beginning a life-long career as a farmer shortly after. He married Patricia Pasley on September 23, 1961. To this union, two sons and two daughters were born: Tim, Jennifer, Greg, and Gretchen.

From an early age, Phillip showed a deep passion for farming. He was always thinking of what needed to be done and how to do it to the best possible standard. For him, one of his greatest achievements was instilling his love and dedication to the farm in his children and seeing his sons continue in his life’s work.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Leonard and Anna Mae Bartz, and his sister, Mary Ann Knight.

Survivors include his wife, Patty, of the home; his children and their spouses Greg and Pam Bartz, Jennifer and Greg Wheatley, Gretchen Hellwig, and Tim and Lori Bartz; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother and his spouse, Leonard E. Jr. and Grace Bartz; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Peggy and Bobby Thomas, Nancy and Robert Tindall, and brother-in-law Kenny Knight. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
