Obituary - Lorene McCleary

Esther Lorene McCleary, 87, of Adrian, Missouri, peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2019, surrounded by her family at Adrian Manor. Graveside services will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at the Hazel Green Cemetery in Boulder City, Missouri.

The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00pm on Friday, August 16, 2019 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice or Adrian Manor.

Lorene was born January 30, 1932 to Lela Mae (Levitt) and Burney Glen Bradshaw in Oswego, Kansas. She had a twin sister and three brothers, all who preceded her in death. Lorene married the love of her life, Norman E. McCleary, on March 22, 1950. Together, they had two children, Gene and Kathy.

Lorene worked as an accountant for Western Electric for many years until she retired. She and Norman lived in several different places around West Central Missouri. After her retirement, they moved to Adrian to be close to their daughter and grandchildren. She then became known as “Granny” to everyone. Upon moving to Adrian, Lorene spent countless hours with her grandchildren as a 4H photography and sewing leader. She enjoyed helping all of the neighborhood kids with their projects. When she wasn’t helping the grandkids with 4H, you could always count on her playing rummy, Yahtzee or making fudge with them. Lorene was very blessed to become a great grandma years later. Being a twin herself, she was very excited to have 2 sets of twin great-grandchildren. She loved having her great-grandchildren over and always made sure they had plenty of RC Cola and Fruit Roll Ups before they went home. Lorene became even more blessed when her great-grandchildren made her a great-great-grandma.

While her grandchildren brought incredible joy to her, Lorene also had many talents. She enjoyed doing genealogy research and raising cockatiels. She loved fishing, but only for catfish because they were the only kind good to catch. Lorene was an avid photographer and taught her grandkids how to develop their own pictures. She also dabbled in photo restoration. Lorene was a very talented seamstress and made quilts for everyone in the family one Christmas.

Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, and her son, Gene. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Welliver (Roy); her grandchildren, Scott Scharer, Brian Welliver (Angie), Renee Welliver (Jon), and Amy Swain (Tony); her great-grandchildren, Haley Scharer, Catie, Eli, Erin & Cara Welliver, Jennifer Berry (Chance), Jessica Johnson (Chase), and Whitney Willerton, Kayla, Dylan & Tyler Swain; her great-great-grandchildren, Ivan Quade Johnson, Norman Chate Johnson and Raleigh Cactus Berry.
