Marvin Troy Shaw, age 40, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, August 28, 2019. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at the Belton High School Performing Arts Center, 801 W. North Ave., Belton, Missouri 64012. Troy was born on September 7, 1978 to Tina D. Meador and Hubert Marvin Shaw in Independence, Missouri. After graduating from Belton High School in 1996 he continued his education at the Metropolitan Community College, Kansas City, Missouri. During Troy’s selfless and honorable career, he achieved a degree of Associate in Arts.

With all Troy did in life, he did it with others in mind. Earning his education and bettering himself was done, so that he could better serve others. Troy was an instrumental part in the upbringing of the Technology Department in the Belton School District. Safety of students was his number one priority. First establishing safety and security within the school’s technology, Troy then established measures of physical safety within the school systems. With no thought of becoming a law enforcement officer, Troy did just that as it meant further safety for his students. After completing the police academy, Troy served his community as a Belton Police Officer part-time outside of his work in the school district. He also was involved with a local mental health coalition called, Belton CARES. In fact, Troy was the executive director, once again, working diligently for the care and safety of others.

Troy was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Donald L. Meador Sr.; paternal grandparents Otto and Opal Shaw; maternal step-grandparents, Dorothy and David Craig; and aunt Beatrice Meador.

He is survived by his father, Hubert Marvin Shaw; mother Tina D. Hickam (Danny); two brothers, Anthony Shaw and Danny Hickam; three sisters, Tricia Mendez (Paul), Jennifer Burnett (Eric) and Michelle Wieseler (Adam); maternal grandmother, Norma L. Meador; two uncles, Donald L. Meador Jr. and Thomas R. Meador; eighteen nieces and nephews; numerous cousins; and many more friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Belton CARES, 110 W. Walnut St. Belton, Missouri 64012
